Grandma’s Gingerbread

Ingredients
1 cup butter, softened
1 cup sugar
1 cup molasses
4 eggs
4 cups flour
1 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground ginger
¼ teaspoon allspice
½ teaspoon cinnamon
1 cup dried currants (optional, but Grandma always put them in)
1 cup nuts (optional)
